- The Spreader Unit shall be designed to utilize a standard Truck Tilting Dump Box Body as the reservoir for materials to be spread.
- The Spreader Unit shall be installed in the Dump Box and extend through a Central (Coal) Door in the Pivoting Tailgate. The Spreader Unit’s only attachment to the Body shall be by means of two pivot points located near the bottom edge of the Tailgate.
- The Spreader Unit shall be of a design such that the Dump Box can be emptied while the Spreader Unit remains installed in the Dump Box. During Dump Box emptying, Spreader Unit mounting shall be designed to raise Spreader Frame off floor of Dump Box at Tailgate to allow cleaning under Spreader Unit.
- A companion Tailgate Door "Kit" shall be provided with the Unit for installation in the Tailgate of the Dump Box. The Tailgate Kit shall have a 7 ga. formed plate frame with a 3/8 x 3 bar which extends across the lower edge of the Tailgate opening. Kit shall include a door which may be inverted for Summer/Winter use. Door Operator Handle shall have a deformed tubular shape for operator comfort and strength. Door to be retained in the Frame by a 5/8 x 1 in. guide on both sides. Door to be secured from sliding open or closed by a stainless clamp screw.
- The Spreader Unit Frame Side Rails and Slider Bed shall be of 7 ga. steel plate. Cross section dimensions shall be 17 in. max. wide and 6 in. max. high. Max. overall length of the Spreader Unit shall be 11 ft. 0 in. with 36 in. max. extending behind the Tailgate.
- The Spreader Unit Conveyor Tailshaft Assembly shall be located at the end of the unit installed inside the Dump Box Body. The Tailshaft Assembly shall have Idler Sprockets welded to a 1 1/4 in. diam. Stainless Steel shaft. Tailshaft shall roll in Plastic Pillow Block Bearings requiring no lubrication. Access to Conveyor Chain Connecting Links shall be by removal of an Access Cover located to expose the Tailshaft Assembly.
- The Spreader Unit Conveyor Drive Assembly shall be built on a separate Sliding Drive Frame designed to slide atop the Spreader Unit Frame Side Rails. The Sliding Drive Frame shall be of 7 ga. steel plate and shall slide on 3/16 inch thick Stainless Steel rails welded to the Spreader Unit Frame Side Rails. The Conveyor Headshaft Bearings and Gearbox shall be mounted to the Sliding Drive Frame. Headshaft Bearings shall be Plastic Pillow Block type requiring no lubrication. The Conveyor Headshaft shall be 1 1/4 inch diam. Stainless Steel secured into a heavy duty, aluminum, Worm-type Gearbox (Superiorâ
). Gearbox shall be powered by a Hydraulic Motor (Char-Lynnâ
).
- The Spreader Unit Conveyor Chain shall be of heavy duty, Flighted Pintle Chain. Pintle Chain Sideplates shall be .125 inches thick. Flights shall be of 1/4 inch x 1 inch steel flat with upset ends welded top and bottom to every other chain link.
- The Spreader Unit Conveyor Chain Tension shall be adjustable by means of a Grease (hydraulic) Cylinder located on the under side of the Slider Bed. Grease Cylinder shall be designed to push Sliding Drive Frame along Conveyor Side Rails and away from Tailshaft end of Unit in order to tension Conveyor Chain. Working length of Conveyor Chain shall be adjustable 3 inches from 8 ft. 5 in.
- The Spreader Unit shall be designed such that material to be spread is conveyed to the rear of the Dump Box, through the Tailgate Door, dropped into a Stainless Steel Chute and onto a Spinner Disc. A Spinner Arm Assembly shall be mounted to the Drive Frame. For Stowing when not in operation, the Spinner Arm Assembly shall swing 100 degrees and 180 degrees counter-clockwise from the Spreading Position. Spinner Arm Assembly shall latch in any of the three positions. Chute shall be mounted to the Spinner Arm. Spinner Disc shall be a Finned Urethane Disc powered by a Hydraulic Motor (Char-Lynnâ
) independently of Conveyor Drive. Spinner Motor shall be located at the top end of the Spinner Arm. Dispersion by the Spinner Disc shall be controlled by a Reinforced Urethane Spinner Skirt mounted to the Spinner Arm and around the circumference of Spinner Disc. Spinner Skirt shall be designed to rotate around the Spinner Arm to allow a completely variable direction of dispersion.
- All Spreader Unit Fasteners shall be of Stainless Steel.
